De Gaulle and Pétain made me laugh.

I just recalled that the President who died in the Elysee Palace in 1899 was Felix Faure.

Forgot Raymond Poincare (1913-1920), who was later Premier (and saved the value of the Franc). His cousin Henri, a distinguished scientist and physicist, is usually called, "the really famous Poincare."

Actually most of these people are not well known in the U.S. I recognize Petaine and his old assistant DeGaulle arm-wrestling, and Paul Doumer, the second President of France to be assassinated (you did not include Sadi Carnot, who was killed in 1894). Pompidou is from 1969 - 1974. Giscard is there. So is Mitterand. The one with the little birdies circling his head was the one who beat Clemenceau for the job, and who went insane. Since you did not include anyone before 1899, you missed one of my favorites: the one who died officially of apoplexy (unofficially and actually he died from a stroke while having sex in the Elysee Palace with his mistress, one Madame Steinheil, who a decade later was tried for the murders of her husband and mother in law, but aquitted). Also Marshall MacMahon, who did his best to make sure the Third Republic became the Second Restoration of the Bourbon-Orleans Monarchy, but came acropper because the Bourbon heir would not accept the tri-color flag but wanted the old Fleur de Lys flag. An intresting crew. Albert Lebrun is the one between Doumer and Petain. It is said he got the job because he did not offend anyone.
